BioStation 3 readers accept face, card, and QR code credentials, and CoreStation controllers manage many doors from one system. The BioStar 2 visitor module issues visitor passes, OM‑120 modules limit which lift floors a person can reach, and a fire alarm zone unlocks its doors when your fire alarm signals.

Ajax: Keypad, Card, and Phone Entry With Your Alarm

Ajax KeyPad TouchScreen accepts codes, DESFire cards and tags, and phones over Bluetooth. Relay modules switch electric locks, gates, and barriers, and everything runs in the same Ajax app as your alarm and fire system.

Cards That Cannot Simply Be Copied

Basic proximity cards can be cloned with cheap tools. Ajax DESFire credentials combine 128‑bit encryption with copy protection, and Suprema readers can connect over OSDP Secure Channel, which encrypts the reader-to-controller link with AES‑128.

How much does an access control system cost?

Every system is quoted after a site survey. The price depends on how many doors need control, the reader type (card, fingerprint, or face), the lock on each door, whether you need visitor passes or lift floor control, and the cabling and backup power each door needs. You receive a written quotation listing every door before anything is installed.

Is it legal to use fingerprints or face recognition for staff access?

It can be, if it is set up properly. Kenya's Data Protection Act treats biometric data as sensitive personal data, and processing that is likely to be high risk needs a data protection impact assessment before it starts. The Data Protection Commissioner's draft guidance for private security says staff consent is needed unless there is a real safety or security risk, and that people should be offered another way in, such as a card. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Can we use fingerprint attendance for payroll?

Only with its own lawful basis. The Data Protection Commissioner's draft guidance says biometric access justified for security should not be reused to monitor attendance or performance. If you want biometric attendance, plan for staff consent, a data protection impact assessment, and a card option for anyone who declines. Many businesses use card-based attendance instead, which avoids biometric data altogether.

What happens to the doors during a power cut or a fire?

Doors on escape routes use fail-safe locks that release when power is cut, and Suprema systems can take a signal from your fire alarm to unlock every door in a fire alarm zone. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, exit doors must be easy to open immediately from the inside while people are at work. Store rooms and server rooms that are not on an escape route can use fail-secure locks that stay locked. Backup power for each door is sized during the survey.

How do visitors get in without a paper register?

Reception registers the visitor in Suprema's BioStar 2 visitor module and issues a card or a QR code pass. The pass opens only the doors and lift floors you assign, for the period of the visit. You decide how long visitor records are kept, which matters because the Data Protection Commissioner's draft guidance says records should not be kept just in case.

Will we get Suprema or Ajax?

It depends on the site. Ajax suits a few doors opened with a code, card, or phone, especially where you already have an Ajax alarm or fire system. Suprema suits fingerprint or face entry, visitor passes, lift control, and buildings with many doors. We recommend one after the survey and explain why.

Can access cards be copied?
